A Charming English Kitchen Features An Amazing Fireplace

hand crafted, bespoke cabinetry and antique accessories

Today, we're stepping back in time to enjoy an olde world kitchen that's been renovated authentically. It's got all the functional, modern conveniences, while keeping all the charm intact.

I invite you to scroll and experience the calm and relaxing vibe of this kitchen. It's a place I certainly would love to cook in.

They've obviously kept the kitchen in the same location as it's always been, in this old Queen Anne house. Notice the high up windows and original fireplace.

It reminds me of the 'downstairs' room (kitchen) in Downton Abbey. It was the centre for servants activities. Also it’s their dining room once the 'upstairs' have been served. I'm always fascinated by the kitchen scenes in this wonderful TV show.

The fireplace surround is to die for. White washed stone to perfection.

Interesting that they didn't put the stove in the fireplace, I would have thought that would be the perfect place for it. But then again, I love how they can still light a fire and enjoy it. The warmth would be quite welcome.

Also this layout allows the stove to be closer to the benchtops, which is more functional. The wooden table in the centre of the room is also fabulous.

The 1950's Aga stove is perfect here. And I'm willing to bet that the rest of the appliances are hidden inside the tall cabinets.

the collection of copper jelly moulds are a nice touch and I love how the wall panelling goes up behind the shelves.

The floors are Yorkstone pavers - a variety of natural sandstone that, funnily enough, comes from Yorkshire. They're very prestigious pavers and have been used since medieval times. The colour varies from deep sandy shades to grey, with hints of silver and blue.

Notice how they've used the space under the window for sliding door storage. This system also continues under the windows in the kitchen.

View from the scullery, looking back into the kitchen. The wall ledge is the perfect place for displaying antique kitchen tools.

The lightwell over the sink is a nice moment. I assume this is the adjoining laundry room and the appliances are behind the doors.

A clever way to make use of an old fireplace to create more storage and bench space for the laundry.

To get the look:

  • use large flagstone pavers

  • soft cream and greige palette

  • vintage kitchen accessories

  • traditional wall panelling and cabinetry details

  • brass hardware

  • integrated / hidden appliances
