Georgian Hunting Lodge by Humphrey Munson Kitchens

Elegance, symmetry, grand proportions and a sense of light and space. This spells out Georgian style interior design, and Humphrey Munson do it so well.

For over a hundred years they have been designing and manufacturing Beautiful Handmade Kitchens in the UK. And today I’m showing you one of my favourites, The Georgian Hunting Lodge Project. You’re in for a treat.

I adore this feature: a Georgian style window screen, painted in Humphrey Munson ‘Top Hat’, divides the kitchen and walk-in pantry

The Georgian era in British history covers the period from 1714 to 1830. It was the time for writers like Mary Shelley and Jane Austen. Romantic poets such as William Wordsworth, William Blake, John Keats and Lord Byron.

A well known architect and interior designer during that period was Robert Adam and a famous landscape designer was Capability Brown. You may have heard of them.

Georgian style is inspired by the classical architecture of that time. Especially from the grand public buildings and English country houses.

The homeowners of this historic Georgian hunting lodge wanted to restore it back to its former glory and create a beautiful family home. I think they’ve done just that. Cheers to them.

The scullery is located behind the stove wall. A separate room for washing up was the norm in a Georgian country house. Today, it’s the perfect setup for those who like to entertain.

The muted grey cabinet colour, Humphrey Munson ‘Farthing’, reminds me of the grey cloudy skies in England. It goes so well with the Carrara Marble benchtops. The cabinet interiors are Natural Oak, a lovely warm contrast, tying in with the brass hardware.

Villeroy & Boch double butler sink, aged brass taps from Perrin & Rowe and matching antique brass Bardell knobs, completes the English country house style.

A Georgian style mantel with corbels over the stove is an excellent way to give a nod to the period. It creates a grand focal point and provides the location for an undermount rangehood. | AGA cooker

In case you’re wondering what that strange thing is, poking out of the wall above the stove, it’s a relic of the past. A pulley they would have used for lowering food over the stove. It was also common to hang clothes airers above the stove.

Raised cabinets on legs, for the island bench, is a wonderful way to incorporate that ‘country table’ vibe. There’s a good balance between storage and spaciousness. It also shows off that beautiful flag stone floor.

“Humphrey Munson take an innovative approach to the traditional kitchen cabinet design and manufacture process, drawing upon their heritage to influence their joinery methods and using only the best materials, informed design and finest craftsmanship.”
