"My husband wants to stay put and I'm so frustrated..."

"My husband won't move house.  We were only supposed to be here for 3 or 4 years and It's now been 26 years!  This house has never been what I wanted, it's not big enough and I don't have any storage.  It really should be torn down so we can start again.  My husband doesn't care and he's driving me nuts!"

I wonder if this resonates with you.  The poor lady was telling me all about her issues the other day. She started off telling me her story like it was a funny joke.  As she went on, I think she needed to get it off her chest because she started raising her voice and repeating herself. Almost like a mad woman.

So, I helped her out with her storage issues.  I wish I as a qualified marriage counselor, but alas, interior design is my thing.  I did what I could.  Her bedroom cupboards are going to be awesome.

She wasn't in a position to fork out too much money for anything fancy.  She didn't particularly want to alter anything else about her decor, even though she hated her blue curtains and blue walls.  She had to make do with what she's got but add some storage that's more user friendly.

We decided, she's going to have floor to ceiling cupboards along one wall, lined with heaps of shelving. It will be adjustable shelving, which is quite handy.   The shelves will be white, because standard white melamine boards are the most cost effective.

The door colour is going to be a bit more special.  We selected a white woodgrain look, in laminate.  There is a bit of bluey-grey in the pattern that will tie in beautifully with the rest of the blue colours in the room.  Plus the vertical grain will make the room feel taller, the ceiling higher.

cupboard doors: Laminex Alaskan, natural finish.

This design’s not going to solve all her problems, but it will get her by for now ...until she can convince her husband to do something more drastic about their situation :P

Have you added a nifty storage solution to your home lately?  Did it save your marriage?  I mean it definitely made life a lot easier, right?  Please share in the comments below, or send me an email.  I'd love to hear your story.
