33 Dreamy Walk-In Robe Design Ideas
One of the interior spaces I like to dream about are luxury walk-in robes. It's truly a dream come true to have a large, elegant, well organised wardrobe. I'm sharing with you some of the best designs I've found from around the web.
But before we get to that... here's the answers to a few questions you may be looking for - if you're in the process of designing your very own, dream-worthy walk-in robe.
What exactly is a walk-in robe?
To put it simply, a walk-in robe is a wardrobe space that has its own dedicated room. It’s so metimes called a closet or dressing room and usually adjoins the master bedroom.
How wide does a walk-in robe need to be?
Minimum width of a walk-in robe is 1500 mm (comfortably). That’s based on a 600 deep robe and 900 wide walkway. If you asked me, what’s the best size for a walk-in robe? I’d say, as big as possible!
How much room do you need for hanging clothes?
It depends on how many clothes you have ;)
I always allow 600 mm depth for hanging clothes, although you could reduce this a little if there’s not enough room.
As a general rule, you should create mostly ‘short hanging’ spaces with at least one section for ‘long hanging’. Short hanging is for shirts, skirts and folded pants, you’ll need about 1 m height for these. Long hanging is for dresses, long coats and pants, you’ll need about 1.5 m height for these (unless you have ball gowns that are longer).
How deep should a shoe rack be?
It depends what size shoes you have ;)
As a general rule, I allow at least 350 mm depth. However, if I have clients with big feet, I increase it accordingly. And, don’t forget to allow extra height for storing boots, if you have them.
Shoe storage ideas
Shoe storage is often overlooked when designing a wardrobe layout. A dedicated space for shoes is my kind of dreamy walk-in robe. I don’t get to wear fancy heels anymore, but I wouldn’t mind just looking at them on the shelves :)
Dark wood glamour
Walk-in robes that are enveloped in dark wood are sophisticated, elegant, and moody. It screams luxury to me.
Scandinavian Style
Light, fresh and clean… a modern space you’ll always enjoy being in.
Dreamy Dressing Tables
I don’t know about you but I would feel like a princess if I had my own dressing table. I could sit in front of the mirror and have one of my maids brush my long silky hair 100 times each night…
Dream dressing tables can also be placed in the centre of the room like these examples:
Walk-in robe organisation ideas
Imagine perfect little compartments for your jewelry, or an integrated laundry basket. Imagine a world where everything’s in the ideal place and everything always goes back where it came from (sigh).
Loose furniture
Budget friendly, yet stylish hanging rails and mobile storage solutions. These are great if you’re renting or you don’t want to go all out with a complete fit-out. If you practice minimalism, you won’t need room for much ‘stuff’ anyway :)
Beautiful walk-in robe doors
You may prefer to have doors on all your robes. I can understand that. Your clothes and shoes won’t get all dusty and it’s nice to have things neatly shut away.
