Decorate with surprising and delightful colour inside your pantry
White shelves are the go-to option for cabinet shelves in the pantry. Let’s face it, they’re cost effective, clean looking, and they work with any style of home. White doesn’t clash with any colour palette.
If you’re game though, why not inject some personality into this space? Make it fun and inviting with colour.
62 tiled splashbacks you shouldn't be afraid to use
I can't decide which of these splashback tiles I like more.
Moroccan, herringbone, geometric, marble, black, white, grey… oh boy. There are so many options it gives me a headache just thinking about it.
My intent is to help you find something that’ll perfectly suit your project. I’m going to show you the current trends in splashback tiles, with many examples. I hope you’ll be inspired, and more importantly, have increased confidence in your own selections.
Pantry room entrance door, yes or no?
“To door, or not to door, that is the question:”
That’s Shakespeare (well, sort of). I think Hamlet’s contemplating suicide in this scene, which is definitely not the topic today, so I changed it. Poetic license.
This is about whether or not you should have a door to your new walk-in pantry.
If you’re sitting on the fence about it, do not fear. By the end of this post you will have made up your mind (let’s hope so anyway).
Everything we hate about walk in pantries
Have you noticed that walk in pantries are getting bigger and bigger?
It’s no longer surprising to see a sink, dishwasher, fridge, wine fridge, second oven(s), and coffee machine in a pantry. Leaving the kitchen with a fancy stove, a sink and about 20 metres of empty bench space.
The bench space is supposed to be for people to mill around, since we don’t use dining rooms anymore.
It’s the dream to have a showcase kitchen with all the everyday-life-stuff tucked away in a pantry. We all love to look them on Pinterest and wish they were ours.
What I hate is when a beautiful kitchen and big pantry don’t function together properly. Let me explain…
Everything we love about walk in pantries
Does pantry organisation make you weak at the knees? We love the thought of walking into a pantry and seeing all those matching containers on a shelf, all lined up in a row… (sigh) so pretty.
Perhaps they’re jars of beautiful home made goods, grandma’s recipes, using produce from the garden. Jars of jam, chutney, pickles, and olives from the local farmers market. The room always smells of cinnamon and cloves, mmm.
Here’s some dreamy pantry rooms that inspire me. I hope you enjoy them too.
Trend alert: Matt Black Kitchens
You probably noticed that matt black kitchens are trending right now. I have to admit, they are very cool. Now, just because everyone else is doing it, doesn’t mean you should do it too (do I sound like your mother?).
Hey, I’m all for it but let’s take a minute to think about whether you would actually enjoy a black kitchen in your home. I’ve got some fantastic pictures to show you too.
Should I hire a professional furniture designer?
Good question.
Highly individual, elegant, commissioned designs are very special. Some people think they need to live in a palace to deserve it, or afford it. Which isn’t true. Others aren’t sure if a designer will understand their taste and create something they’ll love.
To help you decide what’s right for you, I’m showing you my design process.

But that’s true of many styles.
What is it that makes a Hamptons kitchen truly spectacular? What is the Hamptons aesthetic? What particular items should be used in an authentic Hamptons kitchen design?
